Jouni Ritvanen, Associate professor in thermal engineering, LUT University, Lappeenranta, Finland. Currently, Visiting researcher at POLIMI (June-July).
Professor Ritvanen has more than 15 years of experience in modelling fluidised bed processes at different levels. Investigated applications include traditional fluidised bed combustion and gasification, oxycombustion, calcium looping, and chemical looping processes, focused on understanding the key phenomena in a
fluidised bed reactor and scaling these information to predict the performance of large-scale reactors with good accuracy. Over the years, macroscale 1D and 3D inhouse modelling tools have been developed for various processes and applications. These tools have been used in many EU projects to estimate the performance of carbon capture processes utilising fluidised bed technology. Professor Ritvanen will give a talk on the focus areas of LUT University’s energy research and his own research work.
