Multi-year microgrid optimization in developing countries: multi-step sizing
When a microgrid is installed in a rural area to provide first access to electricity, the load is expected to grow significantly. Considering this aspect in traditional sizing methods leads to overestimate costs, because the plant installed at the beginning of the project needs to be able to cope with the load growth along the years. The aim of the thesis is to implement an optimization algorithm that evaluates the integration of possible investments throughout the project lifetime, depending on the evolution of the load, so that the efficiency of the total investment is maximized.
