Techno-economic analysis of plants for the production of liquids and hydrogen from biomass gasification in flexibly operated plants
This thesis consists in a process engineering study aimed at estimating the technical and economic key performance indicators (energy efficiency, carbon efficiency, cost of fuel, etc…) of plants for the production of hydrogen and liquid fuels through the Fisher-Tropsch process. The study will assess the integration with electrolysis systems to boost the production of liquids through the addition of green hydrogen and the integration of a process for CO2 capture and storage (CCS) to avoid the emission of the biogenic CO2 generated by the plant. The performance of the plant will be assessed at different operating points, considering that it should be able to operate flexibly, i.e. with and without green hydrogen addition from water electrolysis (depending on the electricity price) and with different outputs, depending on the bio-hydrogen and bio-liquids selling price.
Process simulations will be carried out with the commercial software Aspen Plus.
