Fluid Dynamics Measurements and Calibrations Laboratory (M.T.F.)
Fluid Dynamics Measurements and Calibrations (M.T.F.)
The Fluid Dynamics Measurements and Calibrations) was set up to be able to quantify and minimize the emission into the atmosphere of particulate matter and gaseous effluents, derived from combustion processes in thermoelectric power plants and industrial plants, giving an appropriate technical-scientific interpretation.
In the laboratory, tests are carried out on models of electrostatic precipitators (e.g.), catalytic denitrificators (S.C.R.) and desulphurizers; moreover, fluid dynamics tests are carried out on the phenomenon of turbulence and on the influence it entails.
The Laboratory also makes use of the expertise in the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) sector present in the Department of Energy which supports the experimental activity with the numerical modeling through commercial calculation codes (FLUENT, FIDAP) of the thermo-fluid dynamics phenomena that take place in the models studied for have a better set up of the experimental tests and a more detailed view of the fluid dynamics fields in the models.
The laboratory is equipped with:
- two test lines;
- a calibration system for hot-wire and vane anemometric probes;
- probe tilting equipment
- wind tunnel;
- system for reading, acquiring and processing the data detected by the anemometric probes;
- tracer gas supply system (CO2) that simulates the reagent and instruments for measuring its concentration (in the case of tests on a catalytic denitrificator).
