Group Buildings’ Environment and Energy Systems (BEES)
The group’s research activity aims at supplying fundamental knowledge, measurement techniques and modelling tools for building envelope components, building service systems and indoor microclimate analysis and control, together with rational use of energy and comfort achievement. The research at the building envelope level focuses on retrofit measures, bio-climatic design, innovative envelope technologies, intelligent building automation systems,  integration of daylighting and artificial lighting. On the building services side, thermally driven cooling technologies, tri-generation systems, emerging HVAC&R technologies based on solar energy use and ground coupling and application of active solar systems to buildings energy needs. Acoustics is part of the research topic focused on human comfort and health, through the building, environmental and room acoustic engineering.
