The event “Eni for a Just Transition” was held at the Gazometro in Rome, organized by Eni to present its voluntary sustainability report, Eni for 2025 – A Just Transition, and to foster dialogue among institutions, companies, universities, and stakeholders on issues related to the energy transition, sustainability, and international cooperation.
Representing the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano were Emanuela Colombo, Davide Bonalumi, and Marco Pellegrini.
During the panel dedicated to international cooperation, Professor Emanuela Colombo highlighted the value of public-private partnerships between universities and industry in strengthening what she described as the “knowledge chain,” a key element in supporting a fair and lasting energy transition. In her speech, she referred to several initiatives developed in collaboration with Eni, including a training program for energy transition professionals and a project in Egypt aimed at strengthening a local technical university, designed around the needs of the territory and the industrial sector.
The event provided an important opportunity to discuss the major challenges associated with the energy transition, ranging from energy access and sustainability to international cooperation and the development of the skills needed to support the transformation of the energy sector.
The Department of Energy’s contribution was also highlighted in the Enilive 2025 Sustainability Report, which includes an interview with Davide Bonalumi focused on the role of biofuels in the energy transition and the decarbonization of transport. In the interview, Bonalumi emphasizes that biofuels are an already available solution for reducing emissions, thanks to their compatibility with existing infrastructure and engines. He also notes their particularly important role in hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation, shipping, and heavy-duty transport.
Participation in the initiative reaffirmed the Department of Energy’s contribution to the debate on sustainability, international cooperation, and decarbonization technologies, highlighting the role of research and education in supporting an effective and inclusive energy transition.
