DOMOPTI, a POLIMI spin-off, among the winners of the NEST Call4Innovation “Boosting the Energy Transition”
The startup, which develops energy management solutions based on advanced models and artificial intelligence, will launch an industrial Proof of Concept funded under the Fondazione NEST program.
DOMOPTI, a spin-off of Politecnico di Milano, is among the startups selected in the Call4Innovation “Boosting the Energy Transition,” promoted by Fondazione NEST – Network for Energy Sustainable Transition. The program is designed to connect research and industry and accelerate the testing of advanced solutions for the energy transition.
The initiative received over 220 applications from innovative companies worldwide in approximately one month. Following an initial technical screening, projects were evaluated by an Innovation Board composed of representatives from the industrial partners involved (Veolia, Italgas, Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, Snam, Duferco, and Eurac Research). At the end of the selection process, seven startups — including DOMOPTI — were chosen to develop an industrial Proof of Concept (PoC) funded by NEST in real-world application contexts.
The Call4Innovation (open from December 12, 2025 to January 20, 2026) is addressed to startups and innovative SMEs with TRL ≥ 5. Selected teams will undergo a technological alignment process with industrial partners and will have the opportunity to implement industrial PoCs with financial support of up to €50,000 per project, dedicated to solution testing and pilot deployment.
The contribution of the Department of Energy
The spin-off involves Department of Energy professors Sonia Leva, Giampaolo Manzolini, and Emanuele Martelli as founders, together with two young talents who developed their expertise through thesis research projects: Davide Zanatta, a Polimi alumnus, and Paolo Ceriani, a Bocconi alumnus. The team combines technical-scientific and managerial expertise with the goal of transforming advanced results and methodologies into implementable and measurable solutions.
Intelligent energy management: from research to real-world deployment
DOMOPTI develops energy management solutions that combine advanced modeling and artificial intelligence to support the forecasting, monitoring, and optimization of energy consumption and flows, enabling real-time decision-making and automation. With its selection in the NEST Call4Innovation, the startup’s technology will be validated through a Proof of Concept in a real industrial environment, accelerating the transition from applied innovation to field deployment.
DOMOPTI was founded in 2024 as a spin-off of Politecnico di Milano and develops products that enable real-time forecasting, monitoring, and optimization of energy production, consumption, and storage, automating energy management to reduce costs and complexity for users and organizations. The company focuses on intelligent energy management systems that integrate photovoltaic systems, batteries, devices, and electric mobility. Among its solutions, OPTIM-ON is presented as an “energy brain” powered by artificial intelligence, designed to coordinate energy system components and reduce waste, peaks, and costs.
