Enrico Zio Among the Authors of the 36th Milano Produttiva Report on Energy and Competitiveness

 Enrico Zio, Full Professor at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano and professor at CRC Mines Paris – PSL, is among the authors of the 36th Milano Produttiva Report 2026, the annual report published by the Milan Monza Brianza Lodi Chamber of Commerce, which this year is dedicated to the theme “Energy Dynamics and Competitiveness.”

For this edition, Professor Zio authored the chapter “Nuclear Technology: Current Analysis and Key Issues,” in which he examines the role of nuclear energy in the context of the energy transition, exploring the economic, technological, and regulatory factors that shape its development. The chapter discusses topics such as the maturity of different nuclear technologies, investment costs, plant construction timelines, safety, and risk management, highlighting the sector’s main challenges and opportunities.
The Report was officially presented on 14 July at Palazzo Giureconsulti in Milan during an event organized by the Milan Monza Brianza Lodi Chamber of Commerce and moderated by Maurizio Melis, journalist at Radio24. Together with the other contributors to the volume—Alberto Grando (Bocconi University) and Vittorio Chiesa (Politecnico di Milano)—Professor Zio took part in the roundtable discussion on the Report’s main topics, sharing his expertise on the current state of the art and future prospects of nuclear technology.

The Milano Produttiva Report, published annually since 1991, is one of the leading references for analyzing the economic and social development of the Milan metropolitan area. The 2026 edition explores the relationship between the transformation of the energy system and the competitiveness of the productive sector, featuring contributions from leading scholars and experts.
