Enrico Zio Receives the 2026 Safety and Reliability Achievement Award

Professor Enrico Zio, faculty member of the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano, has received the 2026 Safety and Reliability Achievement Award, a prestigious honor conferred by the  European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA) during the European Safety and Reliability Conference (ESREL 2026), held in Braga, Portugal, from June 14 to 19, 2026.

The award represents the highest recognition granted by the Association and is presented to individuals of outstanding distinction who have made seminal contributions to the scientific and technical advancement of the fields of Safety and Reliability, while also demonstrating exceptional leadership in the development, strengthening, and reputation of the international scientific community in these areas. The award may be conferred on only one person at a time and is granted at most once per year.

The citation accompanying Professor Zio’s award recognizes his “extraordinary and seminal contributions to the scientific advancement of the fields of Safety and Reliability, as well as his distinguished service, leadership, and commitment to the development, reputation, and consolidation of the European Safety and Reliability Association.”

The award highlights the international impact of Professor Zio’s scientific work and confirms the leading role of the Department of Energy in research on the safety, reliability, and resilience of complex systems.
