Sustainable cooling: the Department of Energy at the launch of EPIC Deploy

The Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano contributed to the launch event of EPIC Deploy, an international initiative dedicated to the development and deployment of innovative technologies for sustainable cooling in the tertiary and industrial sectors.
Promoted by the MASE together with the UNEP, the Politecnico di Milano, and AiCARR, the initiative addresses an increasingly urgent global challenge: more than 1.1 billion people currently lack access to adequate cooling services, and demand is expected to grow significantly in the coming decades.
During the event, hosted at the university, faculty members from the Department of Energy took part, including Matteo Maestri, Director of the Department, and Mario Motta, Rector’s Delegate for Energy Transition. Motta highlighted the role of sustainable cooling as critical infrastructure in the energy transition, in a context marked by rising demand and climate challenges.
EPIC Deploy aims to translate the objectives of the Global Cooling Pledge into concrete and bankable projects through public-private partnerships, technological innovation, and dedicated financial instruments, with particular attention to high-impact contexts.
For the Department of Energy, the initiative is part of a well-established line of activity that integrates advanced research, collaboration with industry, and the development of scalable solutions for decarbonization.
