Erasmus+ KA171: Department of Energy Hosts Faculty Members from the University of Danang

The Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano recently welcomed Prof. Dinh Duong Le and Dr. Nhi Thi Ai Nguyen from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the   University of Danang – University of Science and Technology (Vietnam) as part of an academic mobility funded through the Erasmus+ KA171 programme, the initiative supporting international mobility between European higher education institutions and universities in partner countries outside the Erasmus+ programme.

During their stay at the Politecnico di Milano, the two visiting academics delivered lectures within the Ph.D. course “Integration of Renewables and Energy Storage into Power Systems”, offered as part of the Doctoral Programme in Electrical Engineering. Their teaching focused on key topics related to the modelling, planning, and operation of power systems with a high penetration of renewable energy sources and energy storage technologies.

The lectures covered fundamental aspects of modern power system development, including the management of uncertainty through probabilistic approaches, the characteristics of different Energy Storage Systems (ESS) technologies, and planning and operational strategies aimed at ensuring the reliability, flexibility, and efficiency of electrical grids in the context of the growing integration of renewable energy.

This initiative is part of the ongoing collaboration between the Department of Energy and the University of Danang – University of Science and Technology (Vietnam), established through the Erasmus+ programme. The mobility of the two faculty members represents one of the activities developed within this partnership, which promotes the exchange of scientific expertise and teaching experience between the two institutions. The collaboration was further strengthened in 2025 through the visit of a Department of Energy delegation comprising Prof. Alberto Berizzi, Prof. Gabriele D’Antona, and Prof. Valentin Ilea to the Vietnamese university.

Through initiatives such as this, the Department of Energy reaffirms its commitment to promoting the internationalisation of doctoral education and strengthening academic collaborations with international partners, fostering the exchange of expertise and the development of joint activities on strategic topics related to the energy transition.
