Sonia Leva appointed IEEE Power & Energy Society Distinguished Lecturer for the 2026–2027 term

Prof. Sonia Leva of the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano has been appointed Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) for the 2026–2027 term in Region 8, which includes Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The recognition is awarded to internationally acknowledged experts in the field of electric power and energy systems.

The IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer Program (DLP) is one of the Society’s main initiatives aimed at disseminating advanced knowledge and best practices through seminars, conferences, and technical outreach activities organized by IEEE chapters worldwide. Distinguished Lecturers are selected for the excellence of their scientific and professional profiles and are expected to actively contribute to the dialogue between academic research, industry, and the professional community.

In addition to Prof. Leva, the list of Distinguished Lecturers for Region 8 includes internationally renowned figures such as Bikash Pal, Jovica V. Milanović, Lina Bertling Tjernberg, Costas Vournas, Mohamed Shawky El Moursi (IEEE Fellow), Federico Milano, Dragan Jovcic, and Bruno Meyer, reflecting the high scientific level and strong international scope of the program.

Within a strongly international context, Prof. Leva’s appointment contributes to strengthening the visibility of the Italian university and research system within the IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer Program, further consolidating the role of the Department of Energy within major global scientific networks dedicated to power systems, renewable energy, and sustainable energy management.
