International Training for Smarter and More Sustainable Tourism
From 22 to 26 June, the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano hosted the Smart Renewable Energy Intensive Training Session, organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ SOHO project (Smart, Optimized, High-quality, and On-demand Tourism Innovative Education for Sustainable and Green Development).
Over the course of five days, 22 faculty members and researchers from Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Vietnam took part in an intensive training programme focused on the exchange of expertise and teaching methodologies in the fields of renewable energy, the energy transition, and their role in promoting sustainable tourism.
The programme combined lectures, laboratory sessions, and hands-on workshops, providing participants with the opportunity to explore innovative tools and approaches while sharing experiences from diverse academic and cultural contexts.
The initiative was coordinated by Professor Emanuele Ogliari, the local coordinator of the SOHO project, with contributions from Dr. Alessandro Niccolai, Dr. Nicoletta Matera, Dr. Alejandro Gonzales, Dr. Michael James Wood, and Professor Sonia Leva.
The SOHO project, funded under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education programme, promotes collaboration between European and Southeast Asian universities to develop innovative educational pathways that integrate sustainability, digitalisation, and renewable energy into the tourism sector. The Intensive Training Session provided an important opportunity for international exchange, strengthening collaboration among academic institutions and fostering the dissemination of knowledge and skills needed to support the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient tourism industry.
