America Innovation Award 2025 goes to spin-off RAYLAB
RAYLAB, a spin-off of the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano, is among the winners of the America Innovazione 2025 Award, promoted by the Italy-USA Foundation. The award celebrates the excellence, creativity and commitment of Italian start-ups and SMEs in the field of innovation.
RAYLAB, an innovative SME founded by a group of engineers with expertise in nuclear instrumentation and measurement, hardware design, software development and numerical simulation, is at the forefront of ionising radiation detection. In particular, it has developed a completely new approach to the characterisation of neutron fields, creating systems with unique performance characteristics that are now successfully used in both industry and scientific research.
The award was presented on Monday 7 April 2025 during an official ceremony at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome. RAYLAB was represented by Andrea Pola, full professor at Politecnico di Milano and one of the founders of the spin-off, Dario Rastelli, project manager and main contact for the company, and Chiara Caprioli, a graduate in Nuclear Engineering from our University and now part of the Raylab team.

The award, given to 300 innovative start-ups and SMEs selected from around 14,000 Italian companies, is based on meritocracy and independence, using an algorithm that only uses official data from Chambers of Commerce, with no direct nominations or sponsorships.
The Department of Energy congratulates the RAYLAB team on this important achievement, which recognises the value of applied research and the ability to transfer scientific knowledge into technological solutions that serve society.
«This recognition is a source of great pride and motivation. With RAYLAB, we wanted to take the innovation developed in our department out of the laboratory and transform it into solutions that serve the community, development and knowledge.».
Andrea Pola
