ENEA “Bruno Scrosati” Award goes to Elisa Emanuele, PhD student at the Department of Energy
Elisa Emanuele, a PhD student at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, won the first edition of the ENEA “Bruno Scrosati” Award, presented on 15 April 2025 during the E-TECH EUROPE international trade fair in Bologna.
The award, dedicated to the memory of Professor Bruno Scrosati, one of the world’s leading experts in the field of electrochemical energy storage systems and lithium-ion batteries, involved 13 PhD students from Italian universities and ENEA centres, selected as part of the 2025-2027 Three-Year Implementation Plan of the National Electricity System Research (RdS).
Each participant presented their research project in a 3-minute pitch to an international jury of industry experts. Elisa Emanuele won first place with her project “Beyond the surface: 3D-x-ray imaging for next generation battery diagnostics”, which focuses on an innovative diagnostic approach for next-generation batteries and the new X-ray tomograph recently installed at the Department’s BL25 laboratory.
The award highlights the excellence of Politecnico di Milano’s research in the field of electrochemical storage technologies and testifies to the Department of Energy’s commitment to advanced training and collaboration with key national players in the supply chain.
Elisa Emanuele during the award ceremony:

"This award represents an important opportunity to promote applied research in the industrial sector and raise awareness of the new technologies we are developing. I am particularly pleased to have been able to present the initial results obtained thanks to the new X-ray tomograph installed at BL25 in the Department of Energy, a tool that opens up interesting prospects for advanced battery diagnostics"’ said Elisa Emanuele.
