Enrico Zio receives the Alan O. Plait 2024 for a tutorial on industrial applications of AI

At the RAMS 2024 (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) Conference, one of the most renowned in the industry, which took place in Albuquerque, USA, Prof. Enrico Zio received the Alan O. Plait Award for the Tutorial entitled ‘Data Driven PHM for Predictive Maintenance of Industrial Components and Systems. Plait Award for the Tutorial entitled ‘Data Driven PHM for Predictive Maintenance of Industrial Components and Systems.’

This Tutorial offers guidelines and solutions for the development and implementation of AI methods, algorithms and tools to deal with statistical and monitoring data of complex industrial components and systems with the aim of detecting, diagnosing and predicting abnormal conditions, failures and malfunctions in order to provide decision support in maintenance practices.

Enrico Zio, lecturer in the Department of Energy, says:
‘I am very honoured to have received this award at one of the world’s leading conferences in the scientific and technical areas I deal with. The tutorial for which I received the award shares knowledge about the industrial applications of AI in these areas, knowledge that I have been able to acquire through research with my students, my collaborators and the many colleagues with whom I have worked. The award is definitely to be shared with them.’

The award is named after Alan O. Plait, who established and took charge of the Tutorials programme in 1975 and subsequently guided and encouraged its growth for 18 years.
