Kramer Prize 2022 to prof. Stefano Consonni
Awarded by the Insituto Lombardo for significant achievements in the field of circular economy

The Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere has awarded Prof. Stefano Consonni, Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano, the prestigious “Kramer Prize 2022″ for significant application achievements based on circular economy principles.
After graduating in mechanical engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 1983, Consonni obtained a PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University in 1992. Since 1990, he has taught various courses in the field of Machines and Energy Systems.
I am honoured to receive this award, which recognises thirty years of research and commitment to waste-to-energy and CO2 capture. These are two obligatory roads on the difficult road to sustainability, which I will continue to travel with increasing satisfaction thanks to the Instituto Lombardo and the Kramer Foundation!
he affirmed.
After initial studies on gas turbines, cogeneration and gasification, Prof. Consonni’s research and consulting activities focused on energy production from biomass and waste, CO2 capture, analysis and simulation of energy systems, and the environmental impact of energy production.
Since 2005 he has been President of LEAP (Laboratorio Energia Ambiente Piacenza), a non-profit research centre in the energy-environment sector, founded and still managed by Politecnico di Milano.
He has been the promoter and scientific coordinator of numerous national and international collaborative projects, including the Horizon CLEANKER and HERCCULES projects for pilot CO2 capture, use and storage experiments. Since 2011 he has been the Director of MatER (Materia ed Energia da Rifiuti), a study centre promoted by Politecnico di Milano and supported by leading Italian companies in the sector, which aims to become a reference point for scientific research and identification of technical solutions in the field of waste recovery.
