Launch of the Second-Level Specializing Master in Innovation in Electrical Energy Systems promoted by Terna
The first initiative of Politech Lab, the new High-Competence Polytechnic Network
On Tuesday, July 1, the presentation event for the first edition of the Second-Level Specializing Master in “Innovation in Electrical Energy Systems” was held. The program is funded by Terna S.p.A. and organized by the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with Politecnico di Torino e Politecnico di Bari.
The Specializing Master is part of the PoliTech Lab, a new High-Competence Polytechnic Network promoted by Terna, in partnership with the Politecnico di Milano, Politecnico di Torino and Politecnico di Bari. Its goal is to foster innovation, research, and advanced education for the benefit of the electric system.
During the event, which was attended by more than 150 students in person and online, the programme’s educational offering, content, objectives and teaching organisation were presented.
Speakers included: Prof. Isabella Nova, Vice-Rector, Politecnico di Milano; Prof. Giovanni Lozza, Director of the Department of Energy, Politecnico di Milano; Daniele Amati, Director of Human Resources, Terna; Prof. Maurizio Delfanti, Director of the Specializing Master, Politecnico di Milano; Emanuela Domenica Luppino, Head of Terna Academy, Terna and Simona Sapio, Head of Recruiting, Terna.
Prof. Maurizio Delfanti explained the reasons behind the design of the training programme and its educational content.
The development of electric grids and their safe, efficient management increasingly require interdisciplinary skills. This is the key to successfully facing the energy transition and shaping the future of electric systems. Based on this awareness, we collaborated to define the content of this Specializing Master. Upon completion of the program, participants will obtain a Specializing Master diploma jointly awarded by Politecnico di Milano, Politecnico di Torino and Politecnico di Bari. This is a unique project on a national scale: it is the first time that a strategically important company like Terna has launched a collaboration of this kind with the Italian Polytechnic system as a whole.
Prof. Maurizio Delfanti, Specializing Master Director
The Specializing Master is designed to train professionals who will play a key role in designing and managing the National Electric Grid in the coming decades. The program aims to develop highly specialized professionals in areas such as plants and technologies, asset management, power systems, energy markets, and regulation.
Applications are open until September 12, 2025 to students holding a Master’s degree in Automation, Electrical, Electronic, Energy and Nuclear, Management, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering.
The Specializing Master will start in November 2025, will last one year, and will require a total commitment of 1,500 hours. Terna will select 45 candidates, each of whom will be awarded a scholarship funded by Terna. Each university will host 15 selected candidates for the educational activities.
The program includes lectures, practical exercises, laboratories, seminars, site visits, and a final internship with a multidisciplinary Faculty from both academic and industrial sectors. Activities will take place at the three Polytechnic campuses (Milano, Torino, and Bari) and at the Terna Academy Campus in Rome.
