Riccardo Ramaschi wins second prize in the Basil Papadias Award at PowerTech 2025
Riccardo Ramaschi, a PhD student in Electrical Engineering at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, won second prize in the Basil Papadias Best Student Paper Award at the PowerTech 2025 conference, held in Kiel (Germany) from 29 June to 3 July.
The award-winning paper, entitled “Optimal Sizing of Battery and Grid Connection of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations” and written with Prof. Mario Paolone of EPFL and Prof.ssa Sonia Leva of Politecnico di Milano, was selected from among 274 papers submitted by students and evaluated in three different stages by an international jury. The award consists of a cash prize and an official certificate presented during the gala dinner on 2 July.
The paper is part of Riccardo’s PhD thesis, which he is working on under the supervision of Prof. Sonia Leva and with the guidance of Prof. Marco Mussetta. The thesis focuses on the development of advanced energy management systems for microgrids, with particular attention to electric vehicle charging stations, the use of predictive and optimised algorithms, and the integration of flexibility for resilient and efficient resource management.
The Basil Papadias Award, now in its twelfth edition, is one of the most prestigious awards for young researchers in the field of electrical engineering, dedicated to the memory of Basil Papadias, founder of the PowerTech conferences.
