Laboratory of Numerical Computing for Electric Power Systems (EPS Lab)

Offers software for complex calculations on distribution and transmission networks with applications in safety, transport capacity, voltage regulation and electric market simulations.

The EPS lab offers software for complex calculations on electric distribution and transmission network models. It uses proprietary and commercial software for power flow analysis, short-circuit dynamics and studies of network security, energy transport and generator performance. Applications include electric market studies, voltage regulation optimisation and facility location. The lab uses models based on Fortran, Matlab and GAMS, incorporating optimisation techniques and artificial intelligence.

Services offered

Research and consulting activities related to modelling and simulation of electric transmission and distribution systems and related technologies:

  • Studies and performs network calculations in dynamic and steady-state conditions for interconnected electrical systems or islanded operation in industrialised or developing contexts.
  • Modelling of systems and control strategies applied to electrical grids.
  • Scenario analysis related to the evolution of electrical grids and energy and service markets.
  • Technical-economic analysis to assess the effectiveness and profitability of solutions or technologies in specific contexts, including both current and prospective regulatory or market structure frameworks.
