Urban Research for Architectural and Energy Systems (CRANES Lab)

Develops models and analyses to evaluate decarbonisation actions and policies for the built environment (cities, neighbourhoods, buildings), including studies on thermal well-being and the impact of vegetation on the urban climate.

The Urban Research for Architectural and Energy Systems Laboratory (CRANES Lab) is a research facility focused on the development of advanced models and the analysis of decarbonisation actions and policies in the built environment. Its goal is to study and assess innovative solutions to improve the sustainability of cities, neighbourhoods and buildings, addressing challenges related to the transition towards a more optimised urban environment.

The lab’s research focuses on various aspects, including the evaluation of decarbonisation policies, the study of the thermal wellbeing of building occupants and the analysis of the impact of vegetation on urban microclimates. By using advanced modelling tools, it develops evidence-based solutions to optimise energy efficiency and improve the quality of life in urban areas.

Services offered
  • Energy simulation of cities, neighbourhoods and buildings
  • Development and study of decarbonisation scenarios for cities, neighbourhoods and buildings using LCA methodology
