Focuses on the synthesis and analysis of materials and devices for electrochemical energy storage, with the ability to manufacture and test zinc-air and lithium batteries using advanced electrochemical equipment for material science and electroanalysis applications.
The Battery Materials Engineering Laboratory (BMEL) is equipped with equipment for the manufacture of battery materials and electrodes, for their characterisation and for electrochemical and spectro-electrochemical studies, cell assembly and testing, using advanced electrochemical equipment for applications in materials science and electroanalysis.
Instrumentation:
- Systems for the production of materials for anodes, cathodes and electrolytes for lithium and post-lithium technologies
- Equipment for the manufacture of electrodes
- Devices for the assembly of single cells (coin cells, instrumented split cells, pouch cells, metal-air batteries)
- Static, dynamic and fluid dynamic electrochemical measurements
- In-situ characterisation of the structural, vibrational and electronic properties of electrodes
