Energy and innovative education: Politecnico di Milano’s contribution to the Elsewedy University of Technology
In November 2024, the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano participated in a Training of Trainers (TOT) session organised at the Elsewedy University of Technology (SUT) in Egypt, as part of the agreement with ECU (Eni Corporate University) to support the new Energy Engineering Technology curriculum.
The initiative, a collaboration between Politecnico di Milano and ECU, aims to strengthen the teaching capabilities of the SUT faculty and provide students with high quality and innovative training in the energy sector. The Department of Energy is the main scientific reference for the project, thanks to its expertise in the field, and will be carried out in collaboration with the ABC Department – Architecture, Civil Engineering and the Built Environment.
The training addressed key issues for the energy transition at global and local levels, such as the energy-development nexus, energy system modelling, energy supply planning, energy efficiency in buildings, and innovative teaching methods, in which the ABC Department was actively involved. Representing the Department of Energy were Prof. Riccardo Mereu and Engineer Khaled Sayed Gad, who, together with their ABC colleagues Prof. Claudio del Pero and Fabrizio Leonforte, contributed to the success of the initiative by sharing their scientific expertise and teaching experience.
According to Prof. Mereu:
A public-private partnership such as the one between Politecnico di Milano and Eni Corporate University to support the development of local academic institutions in emerging countries, such as SUT in Egypt, represents an opportunity to share our University’s know-how and to promote the development of high quality educational programmes in emerging countries.
Thanks to this initiative, Politecnico di Milano continues to promote academic excellence and innovation, consolidating its role as a reference partner in the international energy education scene.
