Photovoltaic systems on the roofs of buildings at Politecnico di Milano
In 2024, Politecnico di Milano launched an intensive initiative aimed at installing photovoltaic systems on its roofs, with the fundamental contribution of the Department of Energy. By the end of the year, approximately 1.4 MW had been installed and were operational, equalling 40% of the target set out in the university’s strategic plan. Furthermore, all of the installed photovoltaic systems will be incorporated into the renewable energy community founded by Politecnico itself.
Founded in October 2024, CER.ca.MI Solidale aims to promote sustainable economic, environmental and social development in the Milan area. By the first quarter of 2025, CER.ca.MI had incorporated 200 kW of photovoltaic systems, including the 100 kW system installed on the EN-lab, the new Department of Energy building.

"I believe that the university's commitment to developing photovoltaic systems and establishing a renewable energy community in partnership with the municipality of Milan could provide an opportunity for further collaboration with businesses and organisations in the Milan area, which would be beneficial in terms of research and technology transfer."
