EspLORE project concluded
The team's achievements
After five years of work, the EspLORE project, hosted by the Department of Energy of Politecnico and funded by the European Research Council (ERC) with a Consolidator Grant, has achieved its main objective: to study the properties of atomic carbon filaments in order to exploit their potential applications.
The research team, coordinated by Prof. Carlo S. Casari, has achieved important results:
- the publication in Nature Communications of the article “Electron-phonon coupling and vibrational properties of size-selected linear carbon chains by resonance Raman scattering”;
- the award of an ERC Proof of Concept Grant to the PROTECHT project, which aims to exploit the results of the EspLORE research for possible business opportunities;
- winning the Switch2Product 2021 Innovation Challenge, the Startcup Lombardia 2022 and the LIFTT Special Prize at the Premio Nazionale per l’Innovazione (PNI) 2022: results obtained with the ENIGMA project, the result of EspLORE’s work.

Topic
The EspLORE project, led by the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, has explored the properties of carbon atomic wires, resulting in major publications and funding, as well as winning awards for innovation.
