After five years of work, the EspLORE project, hosted by the Department of Energy of Politecnico and funded by the European Research Council (ERC) with a Consolidator Grant, has achieved its main objective: to study the properties of atomic carbon filaments in order to exploit their potential applications.

The research team, coordinated by Prof. Carlo S. Casari, has achieved important results:

• the publication in Nature Communications of the article “Electron-phonon coupling and vibrational properties of size-selected linear carbon chains by resonance Raman scattering”;
• the award of an ERC Proof of Concept Grant to the PROTECHT project, which aims to exploit the results of the EspLORE research for possible business opportunities;
• winning the Switch2Product 2021 Innovation Challenge, the Startcup Lombardia 2022 and the LIFTT Special Prize at the Premio Nazionale per l’Innovazione (PNI) 2022: results obtained with the ENIGMA project, the result of EspLORE’s work.
