Thermometric Calibration Laboratory (LTT)

Performs calibration activities in the laboratory and in the field for waste-to-energy plants and industrial facilities.

The laboratory is part of the LAT 140 Calibration Centre at Politecnico di Milano and is ISO/IEC 17025 accredited by ACCREDIA DT for the calibration of industrial temperature sensors.

It is the only Italian laboratory accredited for the field calibration of thermometric chains used in industrial steam generators. These calibrations comply with the requirements established by Article 15 of Legislative Decree No. 46 of 4 March 2014 regarding the temperature limits reached in the post-combustion chamber, i.e. the verification of the requirements established by Article 50, Chapter IV of European Directive 2010/75/EU.

In the field of waste-to-energy plants, field calibration activities are carried out alongside performance testing of newly built thermoelectric power plants and the determination of the energy efficiency of existing power plants.

The laboratory is equipped with a small test station for the calibration of anemometric probes (Pitot, Darcy, hot-wire and vane anemometers) in the speed range between 1.5 m/s and 18 m/s.

Services offered:
  • Calibration of thermocouples, resistance thermometers, thermometric chains and liquid-in-glass thermometers from -80°C to +1100°C
  • Performance tests for thermoelectric plants and waste-to-energy plants

  • Calibration of thermometric chains in incinerators and determination of T2s (European Directive 2010/75/EU)

  • Determination of gross energy efficiency, boiler efficiency and gross electrical efficiency in accordance with Best Available Technologies (BAT)

  • Thermohydraulic tests for the calibration of liquid flow meters (in particular cold water meters)
  • Non-accredited calibration of air velocity meters.
Certifications
  • LAT Calibration Centre No. 104 (accredited to EN17025 by ACCREDIA-Thermal Calibration Department)
  • Operates in compliance with UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
