The European Patent Attorney Examination: A lesson in how to prepare
The European Qualifying Examination (EQE) is a crucial step towards becoming a European Patent Attorney, an essential qualification for those wishing to pursue a career as a patent attorney. Organised annually by the European Patent Office, the EQE is recognised as one of the most challenging tests in the industry. With targeted preparation and the right strategies, however, it is possible to meet this challenge successfully.
It is precisely with this objective in mind that the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, as part of the European Patent Litigation Certificate Course, is organising an open lecture given in English by Dr. Stéphane Speich, an experienced European Patent Attorney and author of numerous publications on the European Patent Convention. Dr Speich’s lecture offers the opportunity to engage with an expert in the field, who has helped many to pass the examination in the past.
The lecture will take place on Friday 17 January 2025 and will be divided into two parts corresponding to papers C and D of the examination:
Morning 9:30 – 12:45: Paper C
- Introduction
- Methodology
- Interpretation of claims
- Novelty
- Inventive height
- Added matter
- Patentability
- Priority
Afternoon 14:15 – 17:30: paper D

- Testing how to find information quickly
