New MOOC “Sustainable Farm Design in Developing Countries” on POK
The free online course “Sustainable Farm Design in Developing Countries” is now available on the POK – Polimi Open Knowledge platform. Created by lecturers Igor Matteo Carraretto and Chiara D’Ignazi of the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, as part of the PoliSocial I-FERME (Intelligent inFrastructure dEsign foR a Multifunctional Efficient farm) project. The MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) proposes innovative and simplified design tools to foster the development of sustainable farms in developing countries.
The course covers multidisciplinary topics, focusing on the preliminary design of road infrastructure, autonomous photovoltaic systems and cold food storage systems, optimised according to local resources and needs. Structured over four weeks, it includes teaching materials, quizzes and practical exercises based on real case studies, with a total commitment of 25 hours.
This course is a unique opportunity for those who wish to acquire practical skills and simple tools to address the design challenges related to sustainable farms in developing countries. We wanted to create a course that is accessible to all, offering concrete solutions based on local resources and the real needs of isolated communities,
explain lecturers Igor Matteo Carraretto and Chiara D’Ignazi.
The MOOC is freely accessible and recommended for those with basic skills in structural engineering, renewable energy management and thermodynamics.
