An article from the Department of Energy on the cover of Energy Advances
The article “Novel Electrified Sorption Enhanced Reforming Process for Blue Hydrogen Production”, authored by Abdelrahman Mostafa, Alessandra Beretta, Gianpiero Groppi, Enrico Tronconi and Matteo C. Romano – professors and researchers from the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano – was selected for the cover of the international scientific journal Energy Advances, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
The study presents the eSER (Electrified Sorption Enhanced Reforming) process, an innovative technology to produce hydrogen by steam reforming methane in the presence of an in-situ CO₂ capture sorbent, regenerated through an electrified heating system.
The research, based on process simulation of a typical plant with a capacity of 30,000 Nm³/h of hydrogen, shows the potential to produce hydrogen with a CO₂ capture efficiency of more than 96% in the most advanced configurations, and competitive hydrogen production costs.
The selection on the cover recognizes the scientific excellence of the work and its potential impact on the path to a low-carbon energy transition.
The cover illustration, which visually represents the heart of the process, was created by Lia Tagliavini, communications liaison for the Department of Energy.
The article is available in open access in the journal Energy Advances (Royal Society of Chemistry) at the following link: http://xlink.rsc.org/?DOI=D4YA00540F
