The Department of Energy is deeply committed to education, recognising the crucial importance of energy issues for industrial, economic and social systems. Teaching is characterised by interdisciplinarity, encouraging learning that combines theoretical lessons with practical experiences.
The Department organises university Master’s programmes and further education courses, promoting professional development and creating synergies with the industrial world. These courses are aimed at a wide range of professionals, from recent graduates to experienced specialists who wish to deepen or update their knowledge.
The Department’s non-institutional training activities and special university teaching projects  comply with the UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 standard. Bachelor’s Degrees

The Department is deeply involved in training on crucial topics related to energy, a sector that has a decisive impact not only on industrial and economic systems but also on the environment and society. It contributes to the training and professional growth of highly qualified graduates, raising their awareness  of their key role in the development and dissemination of the Energy Culture.
The Department plays a leading role in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Energy Engineering, Electrical and Nuclear Engineering. Due to the intrinsic interdisciplinarity and far-reaching impact of energy topics, it is worth highlighting the extensive involvement of faculty in teaching other programmes, from long-established ones such as Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials and Nanotechnology and Management Engineering, to newer programmes such as Mobility Engineering, Food Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Cyber Risk Strategy and Governance, High Performance Computing and Transformative Sustainability. This engagement spans not only the School of Engineering but also the School of Architecture.

PhD Programmes

A PhD is the highest level of university education and follows a Master’s degree. The PhD is awarded after a minimum of three years of study.
Each PhD programme is designed to develop education through research, enabling doctoral students to work in industry, public and private services, public administration, research centres and universities while also promoting new entrepreneurial skills.

The Department of Energy is the administrative home of the PhD programmes in ‘Energy and Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (STEN)’ and ‘Electrical Engineering (IE)’. It also supports PhD programmes in ‘Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (CIIC)’ and the recently established ‘Science, Technology and Policy for Sustainable Change’ (STEP-CHANGE).

The Department has always actively collaborated with Politecnico’s PhD School, promoting numerous international agreements that apply across the entire university and providing doctoral-level teaching for students in all PhD programmes.

Sustainable Management of Resources and Cultural Heritage for Local Development: Empowering Higher Education in Africa

Further Education

To meet the demands of competitiveness in national and international contexts, the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano organises further education courses designed to provide up-to-date knowledge in technological, managerial, regulatory and legal areas. Additionally, the Department develops customised executive training programmes, fostering collaboration between academia and industry to train new professionals capable of leading the energy transition.

The Department also designs Summer Schools – intensive educational programmes focused on specific topics –aimed at students and graduates from certain Bachelor’s programmes. These courses, ranging from 2 days to 6 months in duration, include participation certificates issued by Politecnico di Milano and guarantee maximum flexibility throughout the entire training process.
