Sustainable mobility and clean energy: children learn with the professors of the Politecnico di Milano.

On November 25, the children in the final year of the IMIBERG Preschool in Bergamo took part in a special lesson by the Politecnico di Milano on environmental sustainability and sustainable mobility. The initiative aims to introduce young children, in a simple and practical way, to the importance of using resources responsibly and respecting the environment.

Leo and Luna Discover Sustainable Mobility

Professor Michela Longo, from the Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano, introduced the children to the topic with a short film in which the characters “Leo and Luna” discover sustainable mobility, followed by the reading of an illustrated book created by the professor herself. The children were able to observe the differences between electric and traditional cars, engaging with great curiosity.

PhD candidate Sofia Borgosano, researcher Nicoletta Matera, and Professor Michela Longo then guided the three classes—36 five-year-olds in total—through hands-on activities to help them understand the characteristics of electric cars and imagine the mobility of the future. The experience concluded with a creative workshop in which the children made small projects using glue and stickers, all connected to the topics covered.

At the end of the day, each child received an illustrated book and a certificate of participation, bringing home an educational and enjoyable memory of the lesson. Raising awareness among young children about the responsible use of resources and sustainable mobility means planting fundamental knowledge and values for building a more conscious society that cares about the future of energy and the environment.

The Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano strongly believes that educating children about these topics from an early age is a valuable investment for future generations.

“Introducing children to the themes of sustainability means helping them look at the world with more awareness. Learning from an early age how to use energy and move responsibly is the first step toward building a society that is more mindful of our future.”
