The Department of Energy takes centre stage at NetZero Milan Expo-Summit 2025
From 14 to 16 May 2025, the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano actively participated in NetZero Milan Expo-Summit, the new international event dedicated to decarbonisation technologies and the transition to a net zero economy, held at MiCo – Milano Convention Centre.
As a Knowledge Partner, Politecnico di Milano – with the scientific coordination of Prof. Mario Motta, University Delegate for Energy Transition and lecturer at the Department of Energy – contributed significantly to the event, organising two Vertical Conferences on strategic issues for climate neutrality:
Emerging Decarbonisation Technologies: CCUS, Nuclear SMR, edited by Professors Matteo Romano and Marco Ricotti, which explored the role of emerging technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCUS) and small modular reactors (SMRs) in the decarbonisation of energy systems.
AI & The Energy Transition – A Dual Look, edited by Prof. Alessandro Piva, on the potential of artificial intelligence in optimising energy systems and managing the complexity of the ecological transition.
At the opening of the proceedings, Prof. Isabella Nova, Vice-Rector and lecturer at the Department of Energy, also contributed with a reflection on the strategic value of a transition to a zero-emission economy and society.
The presence of professors from the Department of Energy at NetZero Milan demonstrated the central role of academic research as a driver of innovation and an authoritative voice in dialogue with institutions and industry. The event proved to be an important opportunity for international discussion on the challenges and most promising technologies for accelerating the energy transition and decarbonisation.

NetZero Milan Expo-Summit is the new international hub dedicated to decarbonization technologies and energy transition, bringing together institutions, industry and research to accelerate the path towards a net zero economy.
