Emanuela Colombo speaks at the launch of the UNESCO CNESA 2030 Sustainability Education Week

On November 24, at the Sala Marconi of the National Research Council (CNR), the launch of the UNESCO CNESA 2030 Sustainability Education Week took place, dedicated this year to the theme Peace and Environment for Integral Sustainability.”

The event featured a speech by Professor Emanuela Colombo, faculty member of the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano, Delegate of the Rector for Scientific Diplomacy, and holder of the UNESCO Chair in Energy for Sustainable Development.
In her contribution, Professor Colombo emphasized how the energy transition represents a key element for building more resilient, inclusive, and peaceful societies, highlighting the role of science in promoting dialogue and international cooperation.

“Science can contribute to peace and development. The scientific values linked to methodological rigor, curiosity aimed at investigating the phenomena of the world, and attention to the future that questions the well-being of coming generations drive innovation and technology to become instruments of ‘care,’ meaning tools that view the world holistically, respecting the perspective and existence of others. Promoting a culture of sustainability means working toward a future where peace, equity, and environmental protection advance together, and it involves operating through networks, as the University Coordination for Cooperation and Development has done for 18 years, of which Politecnico is a founding member and the UNESCO Chair of the Department of Energy is an especially active part.” — Emanuela Colombo

The UNESCO CNESA 2030 Sustainability Education Week represents an important opportunity to promote reflections and initiatives dedicated to the 2030 Agenda, engaging institutions, universities, schools, and civil society in a shared journey toward a more sustainable future.
