Towards 2030: building the future of energy together with companies and universities
Last week, the Carlo de Carli Lecture Hall hosted “Towards 2030“, the event of the JRP Hydrogen (Hydrogen Joint Research Platform), a joint research platform between universities, companies and policy makers committed to achieving concrete results in the study of the energy vector that could make a decisive contribution to achieving global climate goals: hydrogen.
Prof. Stefano Campanari, President of the JRP, discussed the applications of hydrogen, its integration with renewable energy and its use in industry and transport.
Hydrogen is a key vector for decarbonisation and Italy is waiting for a proper national strategy to be published in the coming months. In this supply chain path, the Hyrogen JRP partner companies, together with the University, have a fundamental role to play, as they will stimulate research projects and increase the scope and quality of the new supply chain, making hydrogen sustainable also from an economic point of view,
he said.
Ferruccio Resta, President of the Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, emphasised that the Fondazione is a network of relationships and companies are a very important resource for building research partnerships such as the JRP Hydrogen.

I believe that this platform is a great community of industrialists, policy-makers and researchers who strive every day to achieve concrete results.
The round table, moderated by science journalist Maurizio Melis, was attended by the founding partners of the JRP: Davide Alberti of a2a, Alberto Pasanisi of Edison, Francesco Giunti of Eni, Stefano Andreola of NEXTCHEM and Matteo Lualdi of Snam. They shared their visions for the future of energy and the role of hydrogen in their strategic plans up to 2030.
Also present were Prof. Davide Bonalumi, who spoke about the H2JRP project on the Life Cycle Assessment of hydrogen production, Antonio Lorenzo Antozzi of De Nora, Gianfranco Saiu of Newcleo, Prof. Carlo Mapelli and Massimo Bertoldi of SolydEra Italia.
The event confirmed once again the secret of successful collaborative partnerships: an integrated and coordinated approach across the entire supply chain and the ability to develop joint projects. Industry and research can play a real role in driving the transition, especially in sectors such as transport and industry where hydrogen has great potential.
