On 15 January 2024, the Energy Department of the Politecnico di Milano had the honour of welcoming Dr. Klaus Grabinski, President of the Court of Appeal of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) for an open lecture on the functioning of the Court, as part of the European Patent Litigator Course.

The Unified Patent Court came into operation on 1 June 2023 and, together with the Unified Patent, represents a major innovation in the field of industrial property.

Today, the Unitary Patent, on the other hand, makes it possible to protect an innovative idea in 17 countries of the European Union, and more countries will soon be added, until almost all countries of the Union are covered.

The Unified Court has the power to issue Industrial Property judgments that are valid in the same way in all member countries.

The event was a valuable opportunity to learn more about the dynamics of the patent court system and contributed to enriching the educational background of the course participants, consolidating the role of the Energy Department of the Politecnico di Milano as a centre of excellence also in the field of industrial property.
