Kick-off meeting of the KEEPER project at Politecnico di Milano

On 14 June, Politecnico di Milano hosted the kick-off meeting of the KEEPER project “Key codE based on nanomatErials to Protect sErvices and pRoducts”, funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC) in the framework of the EIC Transition call with more than 2 million euros.

KEEPER is an ambitious project that aims to provide a new technological solution in the fight against counterfeit products. It is the first system that combines a unique identification code with a virtually infinite number of combinations (more than 1024) to certify the authenticity of the product, guaranteeing an unprecedented level of security, ease of use and cost-effectiveness.

During the meeting, the project partners, coordinated by the Politecnico di Milano, discussed the technical aspects and future implementation strategies. In particular, they analysed the first steps in the development of the nanomaterials that form the technological core of the KEEPER system and how to integrate them with the products to be protected.

The project partners are

  • Politecnico di Milano | Carlo Casari, Anna Facibeni, Sonia Peggiani, Alessandro Vidale, Stefano Zanero, Stefano Longari, Chiara Bertarelli, Valeria Russo, Andrea Li Bassi and Margherita Zavelani
  • ENIGMA | Carlo Casari, Anna Facibeni, Sonia Peggiani, Alessandro Vidale and Stefano Gay
  • CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) | Clémence Gentner, Hilton B. de Aguiar, Nassreddine Amiche and Dariusz Nita
  • VariusCard | Klaus-Michael Peter, Michael Dorner and Samuel Fischer
  • Dayone | Stefano Gay, Simona Mollo and Paolo De Stefanis

KEEPER is the latest in a series of research initiatives stemming from the EspLORE project, funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant for the period 2017-2022. EspLORE has spawned several research strands, including PROTECHT, PYPAINT and now KEEPER, all aimed at harnessing the potential of nanomaterials for innovative applications.

During the kick-off meeting, each partner presented the results achieved and, thanks to the technical discussion, it was possible to define the next steps in order to best continue the future, closely interlinked activities.
