First edition of “Training on Smart Grids & Electricity Markets” training course attracts large number of participants
The Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano successfully concluded the first edition of the “Training on Smart Grids & Electricity Markets” with the short course “Electricity Markets and BESS”, held from 20 to 23 November. Organised under the direction of Prof. Marco Merlo and co-director Prof. Maurizio Delfanti, the course was an important learning opportunity both in presence and online at the Department of Energy.

The course attracted a large group of 50 participants, all graduates in technical and scientific subjects and from different business backgrounds. During the lectures, the participants had the opportunity to deepen their basic knowledge of electricity markets, electricity grids and distributed resources, with a special focus on battery storage systems. The approach to the topics was technical, economic and regulatory.
Course content ranged from electricity system actors to electricity spot markets, from electricity system dispatching to electricity system adequacy. In addition, topics on the evolution of dispatching, opportunities for storage systems and numerical modelling of battery energy storage systems (BESS) for the provision of market-based services were explored. Participants also had the opportunity to put what they had learned into practice during a session dedicated to business cases for battery storage systems.
The first edition of the course received positive feedback from participants, confirming the added value of a training experience that provides in-depth and practical knowledge in the field of smart grids and electricity markets. Further modules on different topics will be offered soon.
The Department of Energy of the Politecnico di Milano is already preparing for future editions, confirming its commitment to providing cutting-edge training in the field of energy and related technologies.
