MIMO project kicks off

Integrated multi-sector platform for national energy transition planning

The MIMO (Multi-sectoral Integrated Modelling platform for planning national energy transition pathways) project aims to develop a new multi-disciplinary modelling platform based on the integration of energy, micro- and macro-economic models. This platform will make it possible to determine how and where economic resources should be allocated to promote the energy transition, what kind of technological developments should be adopted to ensure a given energy target, and whether the necessary technological changes are indeed compatible with sustainable growth.

These innovative tools will be interlinked to address the need to assess the technological feasibility of the transition process and to quantify the impacts in terms of economic, social and environmental sustainability to support policy decisions.

MIMO is funded with €350.000, of which €220,000 is from the Ministry of Universities and Research as a ‘Project of Significant National Interest’ (PRIN). In addition to our University, it involves the University of Macerata, the University of Florence and the IRPET, coordinated by Professor Matteo Vincenzo Rocco of the Department  of Energy of Politecnico di Milano.
