Carlo Enrico Bottani is Professor Emeritus

In October this year, the Minister for Universities and Research, Prof. Maria Cristina Messa, appointed Carlo Enrico Bottani, formerly Professor of Physics of Matter at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, as Professor Emeritus.
Prof. Carlo Enrico Bottani is an expert in nanomaterials and light scattering. He is the author or co-author of 267 publications. Among his co-authors is Nobel Laureate Richard Smalley. He is the author of the popular book Il mestiere della Scienza (La ricerca scientifica fra artigianato e Big Science) Franco Angeli (2015) and editor, with Cesare Maffei, of the FrancoAngeli series ‘OrientaMenti’.
He has been scientific director and/or coordinator of numerous research projects, including international ones, including a LINK UK project in collaboration with the Universities of Oxford, Warwick and Durham and the companies Morgan Matroc, Pilkingtons, Logitech and Bede Scientific. He has been Chair of the Course Council, Head of Department and PhD Course Coordinator. He was Coordinator of the MIUR Centre of Excellence at the Politecnico di Milano: NEMAS – Nano Engineered Materials and Surfaces. He was a member (2004-2006) of the International Scientific Committee of the Trieste Research Area (AREA Science Park).
He is a full member of the Istituto Lombardo – Accademia di Scienze e Lettere, of which he is also a member of the Presidential Committee, and since 1 January 2022 he has been a member of the Ethics Committee of Politecnico di Milano.
