The Department of Energy strengthens its collaboration with the University of Danang
A delegation from the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano recently carried out an institutional mission to Vietnam with the aim of strengthening scientific and academic collaboration with University of Danang, one of the country’s leading universities in the fields of engineering and technology.
The delegation, composed of Professors Sonia Leva, Marco Mussetta, and Emanuele Giovanni Ogliari, took part in institutional meetings, scientific conferences, and initiatives aimed at promoting international cooperation, laying the groundwork for new joint activities in the fields of energy and technological innovation.
New Opportunities for Collaboration between Italy and Vietnam
During the visit, the delegation met with the Rector of the University of Technology and Education – The University of Danang, Prof. Nguyen Le Hung, and the Vice-Rector, Prof. Vo Trung Hung.
The meetings provided an opportunity to define the guidelines for future collaboration agreements aimed at promoting the mobility of students, faculty members, and researchers, as well as the development of joint research projects and shared educational initiatives.
The Department’s Contribution to Cooperation between Universities, Industry, and Institutions
The Department’s delegation also took part, at the invitation of the President of the University of Danang, Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, in the international conference “Strengthening Substantive and Effective Linkages among the Triple Helix”, dedicated to the role of collaboration between universities, industry, and public institutions in fostering economic and technological development.
The initiative provided an important opportunity to discuss international cooperation strategies and the contribution of research to addressing the challenges of the energy transition.
Two International Keynote Lectures and a Best Paper Award at ATiGB 2026
As part of the 11th International Conference on Applying New Technology in Green Buildings (ATiGB 2026), the Department of Energy contributed to the scientific programme with two keynote lectures.
Prof. Marco Mussetta delivered a presentation entitled “Multi-objective and AI Approaches for Energy Management and Optimization in Smart Green Buildings”, focusing on the use of artificial intelligence techniques and multi-objective optimization for energy management in smart buildings.
Prof. Emanuele Giovanni Ogliari delivered the keynote lecture “TinyML at the Edge: Embedding Intelligence into Building Energy Systems on Microcontrollers”, highlighting the potential of Tiny Machine Learning to integrate artificial intelligence algorithms directly into microcontrollers used in building energy systems and electrochemical energy storage systems, enabling increasingly efficient, distributed, and low-power solutions.
During the conference, the Best Paper Presentation Award was also presented to the scientific contribution “Multi-site Solar Irradiance Forecasting Using Spatiotemporal Deep Learning Networks with Sequential Imagery”, authored by Binh Nam Nguyen, Emanuele Giovanni Ogliari, Sonia Leva, and Emilio Pafumi.
The award highlights the group’s research activities in the field of artificial intelligence applied to solar irradiance forecasting and reflects the quality of the scientific collaboration developed with international partners.
