Francesco Di Maio keynote speaker at the International Conference on Reliability Engineering 2026 in China

 

Professor Francesco Di Maio, Full Professor in the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano, was invited to deliver a Plenary Keynote Lecture at the 10th International Conference on Reliability Engineering (ICRE 2026), held in Hangzhou, China, from 19 to 21 July 2026.

ICRE is one of the leading international events dedicated to reliability engineering, bringing together researchers, professionals, and industry representatives to discuss the latest developments in reliability, risk management, complex system resilience, and artificial intelligence applications. These topics are among the main research areas of the Laboratory of Analysis of Systems for the Assessment of Reliability, Risk and Resilience (LASAR³) at Politecnico di Milano.
In his talk, entitled “Computational Risk Assessment (CRA): Challenges and Opportunities”, Professor Di Maio explored how tools such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, and advanced computational models can support risk analysis and decision-making processes in complex systems and infrastructures. The keynote also highlighted the main open methodological challenges and the opportunities offered by the integration of data-driven approaches and physics-based models to make risk assessments increasingly accurate, reliable, and applicable in industrial contexts.
The participation of the Department of Energy at ICRE 2026 was particularly significant thanks also to the scientific contributions presented by researchers from the LASAR³ group. Among these, the work presented by Giovanni Floreale received the Best Paper Award, while Li Zongjie, Valentina Clavijo, Bin Wang, and André Casotti contributed to the conference through scientific presentations and thematic sessions, confirming the international recognition and dynamism of the laboratory’s research activities.

The invitation to deliver a Plenary Keynote Lecture confirms the international recognition of the scientific contributions of Professor Francesco Di Maio and the LASAR³ research group at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, which is engaged in developing innovative methodologies for risk analysis, reliability, resilience, and decision support in complex systems.
