Sustainable Energy System Analysis and Modelling (SESAM)

The Sustainable Energy System Analysis and Modelling (SESAM) group focuses on analysing and modelling sustainable energy systems to support the energy transition in line with Agenda 2030. Their research covers the simulation and optimisation of integrated multi-sectoral systems (electricity, heating, transport), life cycle analysis and the environmental impact of energy strategies, with particular attention to off-grid solutions for energy access in developing countries.

SESAM’s open-source models (https://github.com/SESAM-Polimi) explore interactions between energy and industrial sectors, offering policies for sustainability. The group collaborates with international organisations and provides advanced training in energy modelling.
