Open Lecture: How to Prepare for the European Patent Attorney Exam
The EQE (European Qualifying Examination), administered by the EPO (European Patent Office), is the test that assesses candidates’ knowledge of the European Patent Convention and is required to obtain the qualification of European Patent Attorney.
The EQE is considered a very challenging examination, even for individuals with a degree in technical or scientific disciplines: a proper approach, thorough preparation, and a well-defined strategy can be crucial to passing the exam successfully.
For this reason, the Department of Energy of the Politecnico di Milano is pleased to host an open lecture on strategies for tackling the EQE and avoiding the most common mistakes.
The lecture will be delivered in English by Dr. Stéphane Speich, an experienced European Patent Attorney and author, among other works, of a commentary on the EPC (European Patent Convention).
The lecture will be held on December 19th, 2025, and will be divided into two parts corresponding to Papers C and D of the exam:
Morning – PAPER C
9:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m

Afternoon – PAPER D
14:15 p.m – 17:30 p.m.
- Develop and test their reading and writing speed
- Test how to find the information quickly
How to participate
The event will take place in person at the Department of Energy, Via Lambruschini 4, Building BL25, Milan, and online via the Microsoft Teams platform.
