Training day on radon regulations and mandatory compliance requirements at national and regional level
Italian radiation protection legislation has undergone a significant development in the field of natural radioactivity following the transposition of European Directive 59/2013, implemented through Legislative Decree no. 101/2020 and subsequent amendments and additions (Legislative Decree no. 203/2022), as well as through the publication of the National Radon Action Plan (Official Gazette, General Series no. 43 of 21/02/2024).
Across the different Italian regions, the presence of local regulations aimed at protecting the population from radon exposure, together with operational provisions concerning new construction and building renovation, has in recent years strengthened attention toward protecting both workers and the general public from exposure to this natural gas. At the same time, this framework has led to an overlap of obligations across different levels of responsibility, including:
measurement of radon concentration;
obligations arising from compliance with municipal building regulations during renovation or new construction phases;
worker protection requirements under Legislative Decree no. 81/2008 and subsequent amendments and additions.
The implementation of these requirements involves different professional roles and areas of expertise. The RadonTech event aims to foster discussion on these topics and to clarify, through a structured training programme, existing doubts and critical issues related to workplace safety, the quality of measurements carried out, and the design of radon risk mitigation measures in both new constructions and building renovation projects. Assoradon and the Politecnico di Milano are therefore organising a training day addressed to technical professionals from public bodies as well as from the private and freelance sectors.
The six-hour training course will be recognised by the Politecnico di Milano as valid continuing education for experts in radon remediation interventions, in accordance with Legislative Decree no. 101/2020 and subsequent amendments and additions – Annex II.
