URBEM: Final results of the project presented at the Department of Energy

On March 26th, the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano hosted the final event of the URBEM (Urban Reference Buildings for Energy Modelling) project, a Nationally Relevant Research Project (PRIN) funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR). Coordinated by Prof. Francesco Causone from the Department of Energy, the project involved ten Italian universities with the aim of developing a database of reference buildings (archetypes) to support energy simulation at the urban scale.

Refrigeration and access to food: the I-FERME project in Congo

The I-FERME (Intelligent Infrastructure Design for a Multifunctional Efficient Farm) project, which is funded by the Polisocial Award 2022, aims to upgrade the infrastructure of a multifunctional farm in Mpangala village, Democratic Republic of Congo. This initiative is being developed by Politecnico di Milano’s Department of Energy in collaboration with its DMEC, DICA, DEIB departments,…

The AURIGA project, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), aims to develop new CO₂ absorption systems

The research project AURIGA – Unveiling the RIddles of GAs-liquid fluid dynamics: towards novel carbon dioxide absorption systems, supervised by Giorgio Besagni, Associate Professor at the Departmentof Energy of Politecnico di Milano, has received funding of more than €1.5M under the FIS 2 Call for Proposals of the Italian Ministry of University and Research.

The Department of Energy in the forefront at the IEEE ICSRS 2024

The eighth edition of the International Conference on System Reliability and Safety (ICSRS 2024) www.icsrs.org , a landmark event for the international scientific community in the field of system reliability and safety, was held in Sicily from 20 to 22 November 2024. The conference was co-sponsored by the IEEE Reliability Society (Italy Chapter) and was attended by experts from all over the world. Among the topics covered: artificial intelligence and advanced simulation for reliability, safety, resilience of complex systems.

The Department of Energy joins the MEDFASEE project: a new PMU for monitoring the European electricity grid

Since 2024, the Department of Energy of the Politecnico di Milano has been participating in the international MEDFASEE project, an initiative started in 2003 in Brazil at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) and aimed at the advanced monitoring of electricity grids through the installation of Phase Measurement Units (PMUs). To date, the project has led to the commissioning of more than 20 PMUs in Brazil, a dozen in Argentina and Chile and, more recently, four in Europe (Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and Italy).

ARISTOTELES: artificial intelligence and advanced simulation for the resilience of critical infrastructures exposed to climate change

The research project ARISTOTELES (ARtificial Intelligence and STOchasTic simulation for the rEsiLience of critical infrastructurES), funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) under the PRIN2022 programme, aims to develop innovative solutions to increase the resilience of critical infrastructures, in particular those for energy production, transport and distribution, against natural hazards such as earthquakes and tsunamis, in a context of climate change.
