Ettore Morosini awarded for doctoral thesis on advanced thermodynamic cycles applied to renewable sources

Ettore Morosini, who graduated with distinction from Politecnico di Milano (Doctorate in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology – STEN), was awarded the prestigious Gustavo Sclocchi Prize for the best thesis of the year, along with seven other candidates. The award ceremony took place on Friday 31st May in the Aula Magna of Politecnico di Milano.

In particular, the prize was awarded in the Energy/Industrial sub-category for his thesis entitled “Development of innovative transcritical power cycles working with CO2 mixtures for concentrated solar power applications” (supervisor: Prof. Giampaolo Manzolini). The thesis is part of the search for innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of existing energy systems using renewable energies, such as Concentrated Solar Power, making a significant contribution to the advancement of sustainable energy technologies.

The Sclocchi Prize, now in its 31st year, is sponsored by the Italian Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Assorisorse (the Italian Association for the Sustainable Energy Resources Industry) and EAGE (the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers). The competition was created to reward the best doctoral and diploma theses on technical topics related to energy in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines, carried out at Italian universities or by Italian citizens who have graduated abroad.

Ettore Morosini explains:

The Sclocchi Prize is considered a prestigious recognition within the Italian scientific community. I am therefore extremely honoured because the work carried out at the Politecnico di Milano Energy Department in the framework of the European H2020 projects has been recognised and rewarded for its value. My goal is to continue to develop innovative solutions to address global energy challenges and contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable future.
