Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property: an open lecture to explore how AI tools can support professionals in the sector

Artificial Intelligence now plays a key role in the field of Intellectual Property (IP), offering innovative tools for managing, protecting and analysing trademark, patent and copyright rights. The growing amount of data and the complexity of IP regulations make it increasingly difficult for companies and professionals to manage all activities related to the protection of their rights in the traditional way. In this context, Artificial Intelligence can become an important resource, capable of supporting numerous activities.

With the aim of exploring this highly topical and interesting subject, the Department of Energy is organising an open lecture on 5 May 2025 (9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.) entitled “Artificial Intelligence Applied to Intellectual Property”, given by Dr. Alessio Canova, Italian Industrial Property Attorney (trademarks, designs and models) and European Union Trademark and Design Attorney. During the event, Dr. Canova will analyse how Artificial Intelligence tools can support companies and professionals in the sector in the following activities:

  • Prior art searches and assessment of the risk of confusion between trademarks
  • Analysis of evidence of use for the protection of industrial property rights
  • Automatic translation of patent and trademark documents
  • Predictive analysis and strategies for the protection of intellectual property rights

In addition, practical demonstrations of AI tools such as ChatGPT (OpenAI) and NotebookLM (Google Gemini) will be presented.

The event will be an opportunity for discussion and in-depth analysis to discover how the most advanced technologies can be useful in managing the legal complexities of the sector.
