New edition of the Continuous training courses BESS & Electrical Markets launched

Following the dynamic evolution of the electricity system, the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano is pleased to announce the launch of the new edition of the Continuing training course “Electricity Markets and BESS”, designed to provide a detailed overview of electricity markets and battery storage systems (BESS). With the energy landscape constantly changing, this course aims to provide industry professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively navigate these changes, confirming the Department of Energy’s leading role in energy sector training.

The course, part of the “Training on Smart Grids & Electricity Markets” initiative, is scheduled from 24 to 28 June 2024 from 09:00 to 13:00 for a total of 20 hours of lectures.

Lectures and practical sessions will offer a comprehensive insight into a wide range of topics: from an overview of the electricity system and electricity markets to new dispatching services and new opportunities for storage, through to numerical and technical modelling of BESS performance and business case discussions.

This is a unique opportunity for industry professionals to deepen their knowledge of electricity markets and energy storage technologies. Our goal is to provide participants with the skills they need to meet the challenges and exploit the opportunities in the energy sector.

said Prof. Marco Merlo, course director.

The timing of this course is particularly relevant given recent developments in the sector. Terna, the operator of the Italian electricity grid, recently published the Outline Proposal for the Electricity Capacity Storage Supply Mechanism (MACSE), signalling a proactive approach towards incorporating energy storage into the grid infrastructure. This proposal outlines key regulations and guidelines governing the integration of energy storage systems, reflecting the growing importance of storage technologies in ensuring grid stability and flexibility.

The course will be delivered in Italian in a hybrid mode (in presence at Politecnico di Milano classrooms and online on Microsoft Teams).

Enrolment for the course is now open: those interested in deepening their skills on the subject of electrical markets & BESS in an academic environment of excellence can formalise their applications by 16 June here.
