Martina Ferrando, born in 1993, is a fixed-term researcher at the Department of Energy, Politecnico di Milano. She graduated from Politecnico di Milano with a bachelor’s degree in Building Engineering, later earning a master’s degree in Building Engineering with 110 cum laude in 2018. Her master’s thesis, conducted at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, focused on dynamic energy modeling with advanced statistical clustering techniques exploited for modeling occupants in models. Subsequently, she did her Ph.D. in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology at the Department of Energy, Politecnico di Milano, Italy, and spent 9 months as an affiliate at LBNL, Berkeley, California, and did a short stint as a visiting PhD student at ETH Zurich. Her research focuses on energy modeling of individual buildings and at the urban scale, integrating energy and environmental data analyses with both basic and advanced statistical techniques. She exploits the results of these analyses to improve the quality of energy models and their results. She actively participates in international conferences, has published in various scientific journals, and collaborates in national and international research projects, providing teaching support for courses in Technical Physics and Technical Building Physics.
