La sezione si occupa di ricerche di base e applicate nel campo del trasporto di massa e calore con il conseguente sviluppo di soluzioni innovative a supporto della progettazione di dispositive e processi in un largo spettro di applicazioni ingegneristiche che includono la produzione, la distribuzione e l’utilizzo dell’energia, così come i sistemi ed i componenti di impianti civili e industriali per il riscaldamento, la ventilazione e il condizionamento dell’aria.
